Its been said you never get a second chance at a first impression. This is why building the perfect resume is very important because it is your first impression to a potential employer. The resume will be what sets you apart from other applicants.

These helpful tips will help you to create that perfect resume to getting your dream journalism job.

1.     Include contact information

It should be easy for employers to get in touch with you. They need to be able to contact you to even offer you an interview. Include everything from phone number to address.

2.     Add an objective

There should be a reason as to why you would be able to help their company.  Describe in detail what you bring to the table.

3.     Be careful with social media

Watch what you put on your social media. Act as if your potential employer is currently friends with you or following you. Never post something you wouldn’t want an employer to see.

4.     Show the most important information

Make sure to keep the most important experience information at the top. In journalism experience comes first. They want to know what you have already done. You want to show potential employers what you have accomplished and how that translates to their place of business.

5.     List References

In journalism references are key. Make sure to build your network and never burn a bridge. List top references especially those who are established in the journalism field.

6.     Have a personal site

For a journalism major having your own personal site is very important. That way you can showcase your work and prove to the employer what you are capable of doing.

The resume can be the one thing that keeps you from getting that dream job. When it is already so hard to get a job in today’s world do not get in your own way by having a poor resume.
