Freedom of Speech Panel Strikes up Student Conversation:

The University of Wisconsin Eau Claire’s own faculty members put on a well-attended panel discussion September 17th, 2018. Political Science Professor Dr. Eric Kasper, History professor Dr. Selika Ducksworth-Lawton, and Gender and Sexualities Resource Center Director Chris Jorgenson discussed the First Amendment with a mixed group of students, faculty, and Chippewa Valley residents. The Panel, which took place at 5 p.m. in the Universities own Centennial Hall, focused on freedom of speech, responding to bias, and provocation. Panel members shared personal experiences as well as informed the attendees of their constitutional rights.  Jorgenson shared resources for students and faculty experiencing bias while Duckworth-Lawton gave the listeners strategies and tools to combat provocateurs. The one hour panel ended with open questions from the audience and a short speech from the universities Dean of Students, Joseph J. Abhold.
