Society views women news anchors as sex objects

Female Television News Anchors were hired because of their ability to inform viewers of the news, right?

Today women are living up to unrealistic standards and are expected to look, act, and project a particular image, especially on camera.

“Female characters are still sidelined, stereotyped, and sexualized in popular content,” a study by the Geena Davis Institute on Gender in Media, and carried out by the Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism said. “Females are not only missing from popular media, [but] when they are on screen, they seem to be there merely for decoration — not to engage in meaningful or prestigious employment.”

When a viewer chooses which news station to turn to is it to gather the most reliable news, or is it because of a preference of news anchor?

Too often it is not the knowledge or reliability of the news anchor, but the physical appearance of the news anchor. This is true for women news anchors especially.

To be a female anchor on Fox News, “the only qualifications is to look like you’re coming from the Victoria’s Secret catalog, and be able to speak,” Fox and Friends host, Brian Kilmeade said.

When the words, “news anchor female,” are typed into a Google search, the first phrase that comes up is “news anchor female hot.”

On a further Google search of women news anchors, various pages come up with titles such as:
“Top 10 Hottest Women News Anchors around the world – WondersList”
“TV’s 12 Hottest News Anchors | Maxim”
“Top 10 most attractive female news anchors | Sports – Before It’s News”
“The Women Of Fox News – Fox News Girls – Fox News Babes”

It is assumed that female news anchors were hired because of their ability to present the news in an efficient manner, and not their ability to look good. Whether this is true or not is for the viewer to decide.
